The Hong Family Ancestral Residence is a “seven and three” style building built in the traditional Minnanese style, although it does also feature hidden gun holes. Within the walls can be seen a mix of red bricks, stones and the traces of old repair work, and the residence is also sometimes called ‘The Stone-Cornered House’. The ancient building techniques employed in its construction remain sturdy to this day. Inside the house is a unique set of ‘reunion chairs’. When the seats are all full, the reunion chairs signify that the family is united and safe and sound.
