The Pier-2 Art Center is located at the southern end of Dayong Road in Kaohsiung’s Yancheng District in the No. 2 dock of Kaohsiung Harbor. Opened in June 1973, it was used for years as an ordinary warehouse. When the city government was looking for a place to set off National Day fireworks in 2000, Pier-2 was chosen.
Later, the efforts of artists and local cultural workers led to the establishment of a local art studio on the site, operated by the Pier 2 Art Development Association and Shude University of Technology, turning Pier2 into an important venue for experimental creativity in south Taiwan.
From 2006 Pier-2 has been managed by the Bureau of Cultural Affairs of Kaohsiung City Government and has since held a number of arts, design and music events, elements of which has become part of Pier 2.
