The Qijin-Gushan Ferry is a vital transport link connecting the Gushan Hamasen area with Qijin (Cijin). Most of the residents and tourists who travel to Cijin rely on the ferry for shuttling back and forth (another way would be via the Cross-Harbor Tunnel). The ferry is part of Kaohsiung City Government’s public transit system. There are also a number of small, private boats operating in the vicinity.
The Qigu ferry ride to Cijin is convenient and quick, and route offers unusual views. Boarding at Gushan, ferry-riders can see the No. 1 Shipping Canal, now used as a yacht pier, and Shaochuantou Park. The route continues past the old fisherman’s association building, and Xinbin Wharf (with docked warships). In the middle of the ride, one can see Kaohsiung’s First Harbor and Qihou Lighthouse, and on the side near Qijin one can see Xiongzhen North Gate and views across to Xiziwan Bay.
The Qijin-Gushan Ferry is the only one in Taiwan that quipped to allow motorbikes, bicycles, and people to travel together. Such unique features make it a symbolic of Kaohsiung as an industrial city.
